Daughter Gail’s Personal History
Gail Armour was born in 1919 and lived with her parents, Ross and Agnes Armour, at 908 S. Rome in Tampa, Florida from the '20s into the '40s. As a child, she hung out with her cousins, the Theroux boys (Louis, Frank, Paul, etc.). Gail was living in the house at 908 S. Rome at the time of the 1940 census, which listed Gail as 21 and divorced. That house eventually burned down. Gail later moved to Lutz, FL. She was married four times: to 1) Edmund Fahy Smith, 2) Robert Eugene Lowrey, 3) Frederick Clark and 4) again to Edmund Fahy Smith. Her children were Robert E. Lowrey, Jr., Eugena Noel Lawrey Bell and Threasa (Terri) Gail Smith Armour Scudder see Find-A-Grave entry #176765859). Gail became an acclaimed ballerina and shortly after the Cypress Gardens theme park opened in Winter Haven, FL in 1936, Gail and her troupe began performing there. In 1936 and 1937, for example, they staged "Swan Lake" and other ballets. She also posed for an iconic poster which came to represent Cypress Gardens all the way to its closing in 2009. In her later years Gail owned and operated her own shop, The Armour Costume House, on Rome Avenue. She is buried in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Tampa, FL.
