Personal History

After Albert’s death, Eunice Marsh was left sick and penniless.

Ultimately, as a widow of a union solder, she received back pay of $900 and a small pension of $8 /month.

Her name at her cemetery is recorded as “Eunise” instead of “Eunice” as is noted in her obituary. Correct spelling is unknown.

Notice From the Auburn Daily American April 11, 1856:BENJAMIN STODDARDFound Dead- We learn from the Utica Herald that Mr. Benjamin Stoddard of Syracuse, aged 73 years, was found dead in the road about half a mile from Vernon Depot, on Monday evening. He had been on a visit to his son, about two miles and a half from the Depot, and had left Utica about 7 o'clock- in an hour afterwards he was found dead. The verdict of the jury summoned by Coroner VanVleck was that the cause of his death was apoplexy, brought on by over exertion.
