Personal History of Idus ‘Ike’ Burgess
Idus’ mother, Ida (Sinclair) Burgess, died while giving birth to him.
He was raised by Ida’s mother, Margaret Dorinda (Burkett) Sinclair, as if he were her own son. He was like a brother to all four of the Sinclair sisters.
Idus was technically Wilma Sinclair’s nephew, and she was his Aunt. Wilma survived him at the time of his death.
He joined the Lansing Michigan Fire Department November 1, 1938.
He was promoted to master mechanic in 1951. He retired on February 26, 1966
He married a woman named Ruth, and they had a son, Allen Burgess.
He died on June 8, 1967, after an extended illness.
