Personal History
The Find a Grave website lists Artemesia Hambrecht by spelling her name as “Artemisia” and listing her as a brother to William Edward Hambrecht. I believe these two people are husband and wife instead of brothers and sisters, and that the Find a Grave website incorrectly assigns their relationship. My grandfather’s middle name is Nye which I believe was named after his mother’s maiden name.
William Nye Hambrecht’s death certificate shows his mother’s maiden name spelled as “Artemesia Nye”, which I have used throughout this document. His wife Wilma Hambrecht, my grandmother, signed the death certificate. However, the name on her grave marker is spelled as “Artemisia”. I am unable to resolve this conflict, and will leave it to the reader to further investigate. My mother, Betty Waggoner, was unable to add any clarity to her stepfather’s mother’s name.
