Employment

Calbert worked as a labor worker performing maintenance at a golf course.

In World War II he worked at Houdaille Hershey defense plant, a secret Manhattan Project site in Decatur, Illinois. It was responsible for plating the interior of pipes with a barrier material that could be used for the gaseous diffusion process for enriching uranium at the K-25 Plant at Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Personal History

After his divorce, he sold his home to the John and LaVance Drake family, who were Cal’s next door neighbors.

He saved his money all his life, spending almost nothing on himself.

He entered a nursing home in Jan. 1994, suffering pneumonia numerous times, two light strokes, and chronic lung congestion. I believe he resided at “The Waters of Covington” nursing home in Covington, IN.
