Jacob Wagner, his brother John Wagner, and his cousin Peter Wagner left Wasselone, France in June 1771 when Jacob was 21 years old.

They sailed on the ship TYGER from Rotterdam and landed in Philadelphia on November 19, 1771.

Jacob Wagner’s name was changed to Jacob Waggoner sometime after his arrival in America in 1771, when an English Clerk changed the spelling of his name from WAGNER to WAGGONER, apparently the English spelling, and it was spelled that way ever since.

Jacob Waggoner married Martha Dutwiler in Elizabethtown (now Hagerstown), Maryland on 1773. It appears from our records that his wife died giving birth to their son David Marion Waggoner on January 22, 1791 at age 35.

Military History

Jacob served as a private and corporal in Captain Joseph Howell’s Company in the 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental Forces commanded by Major William Williams from 1777 until the end of the Revolutionary War.
