Personal History

Opal’s husband, Frank J. Burke, was formerly employed as the manager of the famous Palmer House hotel in Chicago.

My mother, Betty R. Waggoner, remembers Frank Burke was standing on a corner in Chicago and had a heart attack. His burial notice says he died at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Opal was an aunt to Jerry Moulton Waggoner who he called his “Aunt Opal”.

Opal had bulimia as an adult during much of her life.

When Betty R. Waggoner went to Africa to meet up with her husband Jerry who serving in the Navy at the time, Jerry’s “Aunt Opal” loaned Betty $200 to help her cover incidental expenses she needed to make the trip to Africa. Neither of them had the money to pay for her to get to Africa. Jerry and Betty later paid her back.
