Personal History
There is some discrepancy as to whether or not Maude had a middle name that started with an ‘A’ or not. Betty’s Red Book shows her name without the ‘A’, but her Burial Notice and her Funeral Announcement shows it with the ‘A’. The ‘A’ may just be an abbreviation for her maiden name (Arnold). I can find no middle name for her in any other reference.
I, William M. Waggoner, remember as a child traveling to visit “Grandma Maude” with my parents once at her home in Chicago. Grandma Maude had false teeth at the time and when I was there she pulled a joke on me and took out her teeth and chased me around the couch, snapping them together to scare me. My parents and I remember that event, and we joked about it later after I grew up. The memory was worth the scare.
She died at 6:15 p.m. Friday in the Odd Fellows Home in Mattoon where she had been a patient for two years.
