ʺPfc. William W. Hambrecht, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Nye Hambrecht of Forsyth, was presented the Purple Heart on June 8, 1945 at the naval hospital in Great Lakes by Capt. Frederick Ceres, for wounds received at Iwo Jima.
Billy Wayne entered the US Marines on November 19, 1943. He received his training at Camp Pendleton, California. He served as a Corporal in the Pacific conflict of World War II for six months.
Billy’s brother, Jack. E. Hambrecht also served in the US Navy during the World War II with the rank of Fireman First Class.
