Personal History
Steve Rodman is Susan Hanns’ husband. William Major Waggoner, ‘Bill’, grew up in Danville Illinois with Steve. Bill and Steve were best friends and lived just a few blocks away from one another in Danville off Plum Street. They were friends through High School, and both shared an interest in playing the guitar, enjoying music, and doing woodworking.
In an unusual twist of circumstance, Bill married Sharon Ann Sutton, who is a cousin to both of Joanne’s daughters Anita and Susan. It was several years later before Bill and Steve learned of the genealogical connection their wives had to each other. Sharon and Bill have both met Steve’s wife Susan and visited with them once at their home in Danville. Steve gave Bill a tour of his woodworking business shop where he built and sold wood projects for people.
Steve is a fantastic musician and singer, and Bill attended one of Steve’s concerts with his band at the Danville High School auditorium one year.
When Steve’s mother passed away Bill drove to Danville to attend her funeral. Bill met Steve’s daughter and we shared stories about each of us with her.
Bill and Steve remain friends and still keep in touch with one another. Growing up together Steve came to know Bill’s parents, Jerry and Betty Waggoner, very well. Steve was the first person Bill called after his mother Betty passed away. We shared many fond memories of her during the call.
